A lot of it is notation. Instead of having to write out all the divergence, Green's and Stokes's theorems, they are all encompassed in the one $\int_M\partial F\,d^mx=\int_{\partial M} F\, d^{m-1}x,$ where $\partial F$ is a generalization of the gradient operator
