I'm a first-year undergrad, currently pre-med, but I'm considering switching to engineering or CS. They make good money and you can become one in less time for less money, with a better work-life balance, less burnout and red tape. Besides, biology bores the shit out of me. Physics and mathematics are more interesting.

I know you're talking averages but where I work the engineers make less than me (Research Scientist). It's really weird.
I found the pay for the engineering team because their manager kept the EOFY pay raise documents in a folder on the shared network drive and they came up when I was searching an engineer's name for the document they wrote.
Engineers were on 60-70k, I'm on 75k. All of us early career with 0-3 years experience (1 year for me). Admittedly I would have been on the same pay as the engineers if I didn't request a raise but I was pretty surprised. I had long thought they would be getting paid more than me.
