So, with our current technology and science development, what's the next most likely break through going to be in terms of mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, medicine, biology,..?

Is it more likely we found traces of reality previously unknown and make some sort of a contact with advanced civilization or are we going to stay trapped here until AI get consciousness and kills us all/starts working with us so we finally progress into new era?

Give me your best shot at how and why certain stuff is most likely going to happen anyway and then the worst/best case scenario of it.
