Took a year off and worked then went to community college, discovered I really like math, and now I'm wrapping up my junior year at Berkeley.
I was obviously quite behind all the kids who grew up doing competition math but I worked hard and managed to maintain a 3.5 so far. I'll even get to take grad classes next year.
tl;dr it is definitely possible to be a fuckup/druggie in high school but transfer to a good college anyway.
