Approximately 50% of Americans read so poorly that they are unable to perform simple tasks such as reading prescription drug labels, or reading a book written at an eighth grade level.
Literacy is broken down into three parameters: prose (reading passages, "traditional" literacy, "to search, comprehend, and use information from continuous texts"); document (reading tables and documents, "to search, comprehend, and use information from noncontinuous texts in various formats"), and quantitative literacy (understanding numbers, " to identify and perform computations, either alone or sequentially, using numbers embedded in printed materials"). Each parameter has four levels: below basic (aka functionally illiterate); basic; intermediate; and proficient.
Only 13% of the US population is considered "proficient" in these three areas... which means simply that they are able to a)compare viewpoints in two editorials; b)interpret a table about blood pressure, age, and physical activity; or c)compute and compare the cost per ounce of food items.
A g/IQ of 83 or below makes a person basically unable to function in modern society... And the average IQ of the black population in the US is 85. Black Americans have an average white admixture of 25%. The average IQ of native Sub-Saharan Africans is 70. You read that correctly. The AVERAGE IQ of native Sub-Saharan Africans is 70.
About 4 years ago, a company wanted to know if it would be profitable to enter into the Nigerian market/move factories there. My company did a several month-long study into it.
Why do you think there are so few companies in Africa? There's manpower there. It's cheap there. So why? Because we've found that Africans are literally incapable of doing the simple work that modern factories need them to do. They do not have the cognitive capacity to do simple factory work.
