A typical sapien likely saw a neanderthal tribe making a good catch, and thought "WELL FUCK THAT, NOT FAIR" and then ran back home, rounded up all his buddies by telling some lie about the neanderthals stealing his catch, and then 50+ sapiens would demolish a smaller band of 10 neanderthals with spears.
The cycle repeats, until ultimate watering out of the neanderthal genome.
Neanderthals were more docile, but more intelligent. There would be less "competitiveness" in the world, but more progress. It would be very different.
