Had an Indian friend in my programming class and he was shocked that I would spend time helping him understand and write better programs for his assignments.
He could not understand how I could want another student in the same class to do better.
He explained that in India it was a zero sum game, you did better is others did worse.
I always felt that learning the material and doing your best was what was important, EVERYONE can get a good grade, helping others is a great way to learn the subject even better.
