I suffered a traumatic brain injury halfway through this semester and was out of school for a month and heavily medicated until recently. I spent another month fighting with this professor to have the opportunity to finish out this one class that I need to graduate on time. The department chair and disability services both agreed with my case and after they spoke to him he quickly changed his tune and allowed me to attempt to make up my missed work. He gave me 4 days to learn the material for month 2 and 6 days after that to catch up to the rest of the class for exam 3. He finally finished grading my missed exams today and I find out he’s failing me because I did my proofs using the theorems we learned in class instead of proving it algebraically. I can still pass the course with a very good grade on the final, but he seems intent on failing me.
What the fuck can I do in this situation? The questions did not say to prove algebraically, but he insists that stating the theorems is not sufficient and I should have proved everything from the ground up. He’s given me a zero for every proof I did this way which brings my exam average down to an exact 50%. I’m baffled and exhausted of trying to deal with this man and there’s a very real possibility that I’ll be taking his class again next semester so I don’t want to further sour our relationship. I think I’m going to contact the department chair again and see if any special consideration can be given or an appeal can be made, but otherwise I’m at a loss.
