From personal experience, I can tell you that the funnel design is more difficult than the traditional backboard design.

Well, its cool, but a pretty nig way to solve a problem, a much more interesting solution was to see an algorithm (even completely simulated, which calculates the best shape of the basket from any position ( not just the middle) now that would basically be superhuman ai, and some nigwig monte carlo simulation for only a front position.
