English is my second language so that makes it take a bit more effort. I actually bought another book online which turned out to be just as bad, it was written by a professor and my uni so I figured that it would be good. I really do not understand why more books don't show more detailed step by step solutions. This is one of the reasons I like Khan's academy. Also what is the point of having a bunch of exercises if the book doesn't even teach you how to solve them unless you understand the single example shown

Knowing the exact name of what your doing is really important. Learning a new subject it helps a lot knowing terminology to help you look up information. Like if you’re splitting up quadratic equations you should know that’s called “factoring polynomials” so you can look up examples etc
