If you're having trouble getting a job you should probably look for a 4-8 month paid internship. If you're good they'll ask you to come on full time by the end.
In the meantime, you should ask your friends if their companies are looking for engineers or if they know any places that are.
It would also be good if you started working on something hard in your spare time. Having a good project to show potential employers is always a plus, especially if they can see you've put some thought into it.
