They don't untangle and they don't go away naturally. Once you get them you're stuck with them for life, unless you undergo medical procedures.
A proven and radical method to get rid of them, which is really only applied for severe cases, is to have the vitreous body drained and replaced with a synthetic or a noble gas. This is highly traumatizing for the eye and greatly increases odds of developing glaucoma at later age, or just flat out going blind.
There are some modern day treatments which consisted of using focused pulses to burn the floaters out of the vitreous body. These do work, but the jury's still out on the long term effects. (E.g. it might as well trigger worse complications with the proteins in the vitreous body, causing even more floaters to appear years later.)
