Yes, but it's easier for herbivores. Humans are naturally herbivorous. Convenient, maybe we'll go to Mars soon.
Side note, Musk's Mars plan involves everying on Mars being vegan, if I recall correctly.

Maybe our hypotheses about ET are too rooted in our own systems of life. Hypothetical types of biochemistry are pretty abundant especially if we forget about terrestrial conditions like our temperature, pressure, water-availability.
There's plenty of theoretical non-water based solvents around.

even "pure herbivores" like cows eat placenta after birth and occasionally eat small animals if they are given the opportunity (dead mice, baby chicken) to enhance diet

Humans were frugivores for most of our existance. with tools came hunting, which slowly turned us slowly into partial omivores. tool use externalized some digestive steps (crushing food, breaking up tissues, removing hard to digest parts). our history as frugivores was not magicaly eraesed from our system. the discovering of fire made meats and some plants even more pre digested by cooking, so our body didn't need to adapt further. cooking and tool use makes us true omnivores. without it, we are omnivoraly modified frugivores.
