>>11609094>optical computing entailits kind of a meme. the beauty of silicon photonics is the bandwidth of a singlemode waveguide so the data rate is insane but the issue is density. electronic integrated circuits are much more dense at the moment, and there is no viable photonic alternative to RAM at the moment meaning that buffering (saving data at a congested node to be sent later) over a packet switching network is best done electronically.... which means you need optical/electronic converters... which makes the circuits much more expensive and complex.
