There doesn't even have to be a central conspiracy among the MSM owners to reach this state, just the right amount of funding for the right things by the same handful of people until that material is burned into the majority's subconsciousness, regardless if a profit was registered or not.
Think about it, there has never been a period in history that has had such a drought of rebellions and wars, there's also never been a period where identity politics was the main theme of political debate like it is right now. One of these leads to the other - who'd challenge the status quo if the peasants are busy flinging shit at their own class? It's cheaper and much more effective to keep shoving this trash through the media than it is to run a police state. Why bother restoring religion when this can replace it and energize people much more efficiently? It's also why all backwards shitholes where civil wars are still a thing do not have this present in them, at all.
