how would you build a career that leads to building a domed city??

starter jobs, degrees, side projects, political involvement, eventual financing? the general engineering feat seems awesome. also, why did it fail in dubia?

Doming a city seems a lot less efficient than just applying climate control inside the buildings as we already do. It would be expensive to build, it would be extremely expensive to heat and/or cool the inside of the dome, and it would require near-constant maintenance just keeping the top of it clean enough that the sun can still shine through. If you need to control the climate that exists in between the buildings too, you can just connect them with underground tunnels.

wont we need to eventually dome on mars and other planets without breathable atmosphere?

what about a canopied city to start, that is opened in the middle for large building to extend out of? or a city that is walled off and is completely independent from its surroundings

If we have a city wide dome, wouldn't also the air inside contribute to shielding?
As for Mars I have heard of proposals using superconducting magnets in space to deflect solar radiation. That leaves neutral particles and gamma rays.

Architect or mechanical engineer. A degree, then a job in the field. That's it.

If there aren't jobs geared towards this niche task, Then... starting your own business? get an MBA first.

Side projects: Canadian malls. Underwater habitats. Maybe caves on mars.
