yes, since explaining why some galaxy doesn't act like the milky way does is possible using the explanation of missing DM
The competing hypothesis, modified gravity, on the other hand offers no explanation at all.

Scientists who are financially invested into it and financially dependent on it (who's paycheck depends on it) and have dedicated years of their life to it - they certainly have a hard time realizing and admitting to themselves it's bullshit. It simply has to be real to them, since otherwise their education would've been a lie and their funding could cease.

A brief in-a-nutshell history of what lead to the invention of "dark matter" would as follow:
Newton's gravity calculations lead to a giant singularity where all of the universe is squished into oblivion. Then to counter that, they invented "dark energy" to function as an "anti-gravity", but then new calculations showed all things would move away from each other until this "dark energy" rips the asunder the very fabric of space. So to balance both gravity and "dark energy" they invented "dark matter" to hold "gravitons" and "dark energy" together. And that's where we are now; just more and more band-aids being put on a failing cosmology in a desperate attempt to slow the bleeding.

You don't really understand how science works, we don't believe in anything.
There are provable facts about galaxies that can't be explained with our knowledge.
Dark matter as in "some kind of matter with gravitational properties non directly detectable" is a possible explanation, and nobody has offered a better one.
For now it's our best hypothesis.

You can make any theory work by putting random matter or whatever into it to justify the outcome. It’s not even a scientific issue rather it’s a methodological one.

When a theory is continually shown to be incorrect and doesn't match up with reality, when the predictions turn out to be incorrect over and over again and the proponents/followers of the theory end up getting surprised, astonished, shocked, mystified, etc, after each discovery because the discoveries don't match with the theory -- and yet they still keep with the theory and don't replace it with a better theory, when they insist that despite all the problems the theory is correct, then it's equivalent to a religious belief and not science anymore.
