They did this by each day picking a new random direction, then turning on the fan from that direction, waiting some time, then turning on the LED from the same direction as the fan. The plants formed an association with the wind and the light, and would begin to turn into the wind before the light being turned on. When they tried to trick the plants, by turning on the wind, but got giving it light, it'd continue to turn into the wind, but after being fooled a couple of times it would stop. If this isn't learning I don't know what is. Memories, learning, cognition, logic .......... even if we can't say they're conscious (mostly cause consciousness can't be proven, even in humans) that's still much more to plants than people give them credit for.
