Imagine you are an Ebola researcher, trying to find another drug to treat Ebola infection. Two colleagues are having an argument- each wants to design a drug to target a different stage of the viral life cycle. One wants to target stage 3 (“RNA synthesis by viral enzyme”) with a drug, the other wants to target stage 4 (“protein synthesis”) with a drug. Antibodies, like other large proteins, cannot pass into one’s own cells and so cannot be used. Given all that, how would you say these drugs could potentially work?
