google scholar in general is your friend. look up Nature reviews and other such things. I'm big into genetics and cancer research (yes, i know, bloated research, blow me), and it's pretty easy to find stuff. your topic of choice is more niche. Again, mathematical biology is probably worth looking into. Have you considered approaching developmental bio in general? it might interest you. there's a lot of emphasis on conserved systems/genes.
