"Algorithms" as they exist now, in a formal sense, were not invented until very recently. Naming them after a guy who wrote a book about numbers was just a gesture of good will and respect. Don't besmirch that with your xenophobia.

Every scientist and mathematician use the already known knowledge to expand/discover/invent new things
Nobody (except for autists) starts from scratch, everyone continue from where the former men of science ended

Same for chemistry
