Best thing to do is just tag along with someone who knows what they're looking for and learn from them.
If you're just trying to trip look up a growing guide online. It's simple, you can do it in a closet with a cooler, some bell jars, and some standard aquarium equipment that's like 40 bucks at a pet store.
Get a food dehydrator for when you harvest to dry out your mushrooms and as long as you store them in a cool dry place they'll keep just fine.
You really only need to buy a spore syringe the first time because you can just use spore prints from the last batch to inoculate the next batch (assuming you didn't just make a lifetime supply).
If you're so inclined, sell them in the parking lot of a concert for a 2,000% markup (or sell them to a dealer and let him do all the leg work).
Mushrooms are pretty neat though, and I'd love a chance to just fuck off and spend the rest of my life hunting and trying to cultivate rare and exotic edible fungi.
