suppose you have a perfectly round disk. You put three legs randomly on this disk to form a table. Supposing the legs are perfectly perpendicular to the disk and are attached to the disk firmly, what is chance that the table will not fall when you flip the disk or in other word when you put the table to stand on its legs?

good question. i assume all three legs are at the outermost boundary. therefore i calculate that the probability it is stable against small perturbations is roughly 50% because i am making a total guess without any figuring on pencil and paper. it just makes sense. also. 50% it falls, 50% it doesn’t

Divide the disk into four sectors, each of which are equivalent (like four quadrants), if each leg goes into a quadrant the table stands. So an event with a 1/4 chance of happening must occur three times, so 1/64 chance the table stands

Think about having the case closest to this scenario, a disk with legs on each end with a 90 degree sector separating them, that shit is gonna fall.

no it's not 1/64, the first leg is already placed, the second leg has probability 3/4, the third 1/2. so it's a probability 3/8 it'll stand
