Are we supposed to believe that a highschool chemistry teacher can make near pure (98%) methamphetamine with highschool lab equipment in an RV on his FIRST attempt!?

I only have minimal experience with chemistry-based experimentation but I'd imagine that in a complex process like meth synthesis, there would at least be some trial and error associated with finding the optimized parameters? Supposedly his meth is purer than anything else out there.

Walter White's backstory was that he was almost at Nobel prize level before he failed and took a HS job. The depictions of methamphetamine in the show are bullshit though, although IRL someone with his skills and just the glassware he could fit in the RV could probably improve Jesse Pinkman's 40-50% yield to 85%

How would he know what sample volumes and temps etc to use for meth synthesis (which he hasn't done before)? I think it would have been more believable if his first attempt was less pure than he wanted and it got better each time. In the show, he perfects the process first time.

Walter was not an average highschool chemistry teacher. He had founded a chemistry company with his friends when he was young, he just left it for personal reasons and settled for teaching. So he had some experience in the past.

it's unreal that you think optimization of reaction conditions isn't something people do every day.
unless walt is walking around with a proprietary handbook from Merck process group or whatever, then he'd have to optimize it himself.
