I'd say his work is pretty useful. He buzzing around trying to help many different subfields of mathematics, so he's not putting all his eggs in one baskets. He is ensuring that we get some use out of him. As for the usefulness of higher math, I see no reason to defend that.

Everyone knows you can game the test by practicing for it. Psychologists will wave this obvious flaw away by saying that practicing defeats the purpose but it’s clear that the test is bullshit.

Richard Feynman scored like around 120 on an iq test and he’s considered one of the best physicists of all time. I think that should be enough to show that iq tests don’t accurately measure whatever it is intelligence is.

It was not 130 but 135, which puts him in the top 1%. This is not low for a chess player because at that range IQ stops being the main factor and effort becomes more important. The same goes for Richard Borcherds who tested at 137. But this is not the point, call it IQ, g, intelligence, whatever you want, the point is these people are all exceptionally intelligent and they are choosing to waste their gift instead of doing something useful.

If you can’t define what intelligence is scientifically, there is no point discussing it, becuase you don’t understand what it is. You might as well be talking about charisma. I’m sure there are tests that try to measure charisma but I’m not going to put much weight behind them as a scientific test.

Concerning IQ, I always considered that even if it had some kind of merit, which I find dubious, what would it matter that one person can suss out a pattern in shapes or some syntax nuance slightly faster or more accurately than another? How many situations in life would something like that even matter?

I would think not much. Becuase thebtest assumes that nothing you don’t your daily life can enhance your ability to do better on an iq test. But since you can take an iq test by practicing, it seems reasonable that someone who often does activities that involve looking at patterns such as reason sheet music or such could inflate your score as opposed to you not doing many activities that involve looking at patterns.
