For a lot of people though they are so attached to their communication and/or interpretarion of events that it is hardwired directly into their emotion center and all they can be is raving 'muh feels' monsters.

It is sort of the difference between constant claiming/stating your ego at every opportunity and letting it flare up only at predetermined checkpoints that is accessible to some audience, regardless of if it is friendly or not.

Most people who haven't really experienced dissociation just think it's a matter of pretending you're somewhere, or leaving your body. Really it can be anything from filtration of memory, sensory input, and awareness that's allowed to reach the conscious mind, to making multiple bodies and just switching between them. With childhood or extreme trauma in particular the concept of a true self vs false self breaks down, as does alters acting as isolated fragments of a total self.
