you also have the three letter word which is thin diamond, fat diamond then thin diamond again, there are probably many few words in german that are like that

Here's how you solve it. Write a simple python script that greedily substitutes in plausible words (based on a german dictionary), then check the probably several outputs for which one makes grammatical sense manually.

Easiest way to do this.

It's just some plain text converted to Wingdings. The first character (the "M" with a tail) is character code 0x65 ("e"), the second is 0x73 ("s") etc etc

Nö. Für jede beliebige Nachricht gibt es eine OTP Verschlüsselung so dass die Verschlüsselte Nachricht im OP genau aus dieser Nachricht resultiert.

Make a list of characters by frequency.
Look up english language character by frequency data.
Match the data, you'll get good chunk of info right there.

You can guess the encryption method and if you are lucky you get it. Here since the professor said it can be done with no knowledge you can assume it is something simple like monalphabetic substitution and go with that. If it doesn't work after some time guess something else...

Yes, what I said isn't guaranteed to work, but I think you always work under the assumption that you can solve it. If the result is something which has meaning and is related to where you got the message from and if the encryption method is something you expected to be used, while you can't be certain, there is a (high) chance it's the solution.

Entropie-Analyse der Zeichen. Wenn da für Monogramme, Bigramme etc. eine Verteilung rauskommt, die derjenigen der Sprache entspricht, dann ist es ziemlich sicher eine einfache Permutation. Bei OTP müssten die Zeichen gleichverteilt sein. "IMPOSSIBLE" und "IT CAN NOT BE DONE" ist bullshit.

But yes. Frequency analysis is likely the best place to start.
Match the frequency of symbols in the sentence to the frequency of letters in German.
If I wasn't phone posting I would give it a better go.
