Ate bad chicken and developed severe Salmonella? You get hospitalized, infected with COVID-19 by cross-contamination, and you die.
Appendicitis hits you? You get hospitalized, there's no ventilator to intubate you during surgery. Your appendix bursts and you die from sepsis.
Bad car accident? Same thing - can't do surgery if there's no way to keep you breathing. You bleed out and die.
COVID-19 going really out of control means the loss of every safety net that prevents a medical emergency from being certain death.
