What's the evolutionary basis of laying eggs and brooding them ?
Wouldn't it be always safer and more convenient to keep the eggs in the mother's body until they're ready to hatch ? Rather than exposing them to predation and having to stay immobile to keep them at the right temperature ?
Why is ovoparity so much more common than ovoviviparity ?
