Hello, welcome to /asg/ - Actic Science General.
This is where you talk about based science here. The word Actic is just the name of this general.

Measurements... What are they? They're ways to see the magnitude of a scalar/vector quantity. Scalars require magnitude (Size). Vectors require magnitude and direction.
The most important part about the measurements are the units. They're ways we label stuff around with quanities. Meter is used for distance. Kilogram is used for mass. We often shorten them, like '3 m' and '17 kg'. The whole problem, is that units differ. '3 m' could mean '0.00186 m'; the 'm' in this context stands for 'miles'. '17 kg' could mean '37.4786 lb'; the lb stands for 'pounds'. The meter & kilogram is for the metric system, very common recent system nowadays created by Napoleon, and many scientists expanded on it, a meter refers to the distance a light moves in a vacuum per 1799 792 458 seconds, the kilograms refers to being 1000x grams. The miles & pounds on the other hand is used by the imperial system, an old system used by very few countries, notably the US, it was used by ancient scientists as a way to make measurements for our body hence the words 'Feet', 'Stone', 'Pounds' & 'Miles'.
Of course this is all too confusing. That's why there's something called 'International System of Units' or ISU for short. It's the units used by scientists internationally, whether it be metric or imperial, whatever the scientists find easier they put it in the ISU. To avoid confusion and to arrange important units and easily define them.
We use certain objects to be able to measure something easily, whether an easy hand, a medium ruler or a hard vernier caliper. All are used to measure length, but one is more precise than the others.
