TL;DR: what can I do to increase my chances of getting accepted into grad school for pure math when my grades are in the gutter, for example research.
So I'm in my 3rd year of uni for Physics, but I've been taking pure math on the side and basically realized what I like about physics is because of what I love about math, so I want to go to grad school for p.math.
The issue is that my GPA is garbage (about 2.0) since I couldn't get my shit together the first 2 years, and I couldn't do well enough to make up for it this year. I'll improve my grades in the upcoming terms, but my average is beyond salvaging at this point.
So I'm wondering what can I do in order to optimize my chances of getting into grad school at this point?
I have the impression that typically it's almost entirely grades for p.math since undergrads can't contribute much in research, but in my case I'm pretty sure that's losing strategy. I'll still put every effort into making my gpa not as huge a handicap as it can be, but I was wondering if I can do anything to actually make myself stand out, like attempt to do research (research experience seems to help a lot in science).
Thanks for your inout in advance.
