Covid19 did not originate in Wuhan?

Interested to hear what /sci/ makes of this. A Cambridge geneticist asserts there is no proof Covid 19 originated in Wuhan. Basically there are three groups of virus, A, B and C. B is in China, A is in USA, C is in EU. Australia has A and B. However, China's B group is mutated FROM A of USA. So the possible origin is in the USA?

Of course there's no proof. The entire world has shut down and those few scientists with relevant experience are working on treatments. We'll know precisely what reservoir it emerged from later this year, but right now there are bigger issues.

My background is not in evolutionary genetics, and I haven't worked with viral phylogenies before. But I read through the paper pretty carefully and couldn't find any part where the authors claim that the probable origin of COVID-19 is the US. Correct me if I'm wrong and point me to the excerpt.

I should point out though that the channel he is on is China Global Television Network which is basically the equivalent to Russia Today, Aljazeera, CNN, etc. In other worlds it is prone to bias. But I found that as a whole he is being very objective and simply talking about his research. So it's not some conspiracy piece saying it's a bio weapon, etc. Still, take it with a grain of salt.

It's literally impossible to tell which one came first from mutations. All you can say is which bases differ.

so the database is curated by scientists posting their sequences from all over the world and we need to trust that there is no manipulation to bias the results. that is a problem when dealing with chinese scientists who are under the thumb of the ccp atm. it is very possible the ccp has been controlling which sequences are sent to gisaid in order to make the proportions of types appear a certain way to deflect from blame on their incompetence in dealing with the ccpvirus. his arguments are predicated on the assumption there is no sampling bias from wuhan scientists sending their sequences to gisad. as pointed out there is much reason to suspect that is very suss.

All you have to is a quick Google search to see the author hypothesized it came from somewhere in southern China instead of Wuhan. But of course /x/tards spin this as "not Wuhan" -> "not China" -> "America."
