He got an MBA in 1983 from the Wharton School, made money became financially independent in the late 80s then got a PhD from the University of Paris in 1998. Now he just shits on academics.

Most likely because he wanted to ensure his criticisms wouldn't be dismissed for him not having qualifications. You know, if you read his twitter feed while squinting and after ramming your head against a wall you could think Taleb was just your average schizoposter.

Taleb is basically mocking academics by showing every day that he is both smarter and richer everyday, which begs the question as to if those retards are even trying. The obvious answer, which Taleb is trying to expose, is that science has become the lair for the laziest and most incompetent parasites in the world. Are you not smart enough to create a successful business but also not hardworking enough to make an honest living as a professional? Try academia today!

I read some of his recent tweets, I didn't know much about him but omg he is as narcissistic as Trump. All he does is he retweets everyone who mentions him or his 'wisdoms' and how right he is about everything especially fat tails. Fat tails. But muh fat tails. Everyone is an idiot. Cause fat tails.

I'd say don't judge someone's personality by their twitter. The entire point of twitter (and any social media) is to be narcissistic. Twitter is just a global dick measuring contest and he is just really good at measuring that dick.

Well maybe, in a sense that there is a lot of bullshit risk models based on gaussian distributions. But a lot of people predicted that the next pandemic is only a matter of time. So they knew, if only intuitively, it is a not gaussian distribution and that fat tail risk is pretty asymmetric, too. And Taleb himself stated it's not a black swan. So it is all about human psychology. Nobody gave a shit. Or his point is if more people understood fat tails they would pay more attention? I'd think if we had proper leaders and if they were told by the scientists to fucking do something about these predictions, they would have started preparing long time ago without having to understand fat tails.

That is not the point, the point is what this structure filters for. I disagree with the poster above, the academics definitely neither the dumbest or laziest. Those people are on the dole, smoking weed. Academia with its current structure of chasing grants and credentialism filters for and creates some undesired traits, a long with the positive ones.

The grant chasing for example, pushes researches away from replicating results and towards market needs. In medicine this for pushes many fields away from researching how to create healthy lifestyles, and into pill pushing.
