I agree that a law is something that is consistently observed to be true. If we observe something and then create a hypothesis around it and then test that hypothesis and have others validate it, it becomes a theory. If it can be proven, then it becomes part of the vocabulary of the law in question. The proof of this comes from how the new theory is applied and the results and predictions that it can make. These results will either depend on previous laws or form the basis of an entirely new law. In this sense a proven theory is a law. Relativity cannot be applied anywhere, so it cannot be proven and until it is, it will remain a theory.

Then people criticize the theory basically saying "relativity bad, those who believe it are brainwashed idiots who cannot use common sense" or a variation thereof, while completely disregarding all this overwhelming evidence.

The only real problem with relativity is the need for dark matter. Dark matter works amazingly well in explaining structure formation, the CMB, galaxies and galaxy clusters, but it has never been directly detected and that's an issue. But all modified gravity models are garbage which don't explain 1/10th of what dark matter does.
