So I want to learn c++ for money... and physics/math for fun. Is there anyway to write simulation programs in C++ to help me learn "whole doing"... a bit like lab class for myself, without equipment.

Sure, you can write a Runge-Kutta solver of your liking.
Then use it for different problems. Astronomy, diffusion, complex systems etc are all relatively straight forward.
For finite volume/elements methods you are probably in over your head and better download openfoam and play with it a bit.

Python and R are better suited for that. C++ is too low-level for that kind of modeling

Anything that runs really fast. But before QC is readily available, you should look into assembler.

I can't think right now of trivial stuff you could try out (other than toy projects like those alchemy games where you combine stuff). For the real deal, stay the fuck away. I've been dealing with LAMMPS for a bit and it's the most un- and mis- documented trash I've ever seen. Literature is littered with inconsistencies and language that's stupidly confusing unless you read a dozen other papers that try doing the same thing and piece them together in an ungodly abomination that attempts to explain a basic ass concept. A lot of it feels like "trial and error until it kind of looks right" and I can't wait to not see this shit again in a couple of months.
