I don't know why but listening to a low quality skype call with some drop out makes me really anxious and irritated. It's actively difficult to listen to.
But then I don't understand why a low quality analogue transmission doesn't have the same effect and sounds nice or even soothing. Even if you need to hear what they're saying it's quite easy to make it out even with a lot of noise or dropped signal. It's not as infuriating or anxiety inducing you just have to focus
The particular range of human speech that telephone transmits seems to be easily intelligible even at very low quality, and with noise or just listening to background radio chatter its strangely soothing.
