>Data since 1970s have shown that stomach cancer has been on the decline
>1989 H pylori rediscovered
>PPIs introduced 1988
>PPIs and H pylori credit themselves as the reason for decline in stomach cancer
>Recent data suggests that H pylori + PPIs = stomach cancer
>Data shows that H pylori negative individuals + PPIs = less risk of stomach cancer
>Other studies show that H pylori+ individuals with no PPI have lower risk of stomach cancer
>Other studies show that H pylori possibly causes occasional gastritis episodes?
>Other studies show that h pylori has protective effect on gastric mucosa in host
>individuals on PPI and have +H pylori or -H pylori: have increased levels of gastrin (who woulda thunk that your stomach would try to compensate by up regulating because ur using acid supressors) imagine coming off a PPI, youd have to taper.

MORE BACKGROUND ON H PYLORI
>Most of the population has it, is asymptomatic
>Medicine treats the issue of GERD/H pylori like this:
>1. If patient wants to reduce gerd episodes and reflux, test for H pylori. Do not put patient on long term PPI if + for H pylori. Treat the H pylori first with antibiotics.
Otherwise , if treating only GERD episodes:? idk i cant find the guidelines for this but i assume just tums, H2 antagonists (which ranitidine was pulled off the market for possible carcinogen).

What do i think of this and my GERD? I think ever since i started acid suppressors my health just has fallen. I have actually controlled my gastritis flare ups with green tea and pepto bismol (both of which have evidence for supressing h pylori growth). I think for whatever reason sometimes my h pylori gets out of control, but it all started with me self treating myself with PPI and H2 antagonists. My heartburn has only worsened from using meds, possibly from compensatory mechanism and my H pylori "getting angry". I have GERD because i lift weights, im slightly obese, i overfill my stomach. meds wont help me.
