You'd probably benefit more from an electrical engineering degree than mechanical, if your plan is to go into mechatronics. The level of mechanical knowledge you need probably isn't as in depth as the electrical side. Plus electronics is practically fuckin wizardry compared to mechanical, having a formal education in that is probably better. It's easier to pick up things like solid mechanics and dynamics on your own, than shit like 3 phase electrical systems and all that. Also, learn to code. If you spend the summer before you start learning some object oriented language like Java or C++, it'll make any first or maybe second year coding courses you might need to take a fucking breeze.

It is a non meme degree in the context of a MSc in mechatronic engineering being awarded to the holder of a BSc in ME or EE, so if you plan on doing the traditional EE or ME route and then going to post grad you will do very well for yourself. Stay away from any and all BSc mechatronics programs, those are most likely some shitty technology program larping as a legitimate engineering degree.

Think of this major as mechaTRONIC engineering. Like another anon said, all the mechanics needed for mechatronics could be covered in 2-3 courses whereas the EE stuff requires, well, a degree in EE.

I did my undergrad in Mechanical but my mastrrs in mechatronics. Its far easier to get good at electronics, circuit design and coding than it is mechanical design due to sheer amount of knowledge you have to pull from stuff like transmission design, tribology, manufacturing methods and material science. Job wise it is easier to get a job in robotics if you have a mechatronics degree but its very unlikeky that youll use both mechanical and electrical on a day to day basis

Big opinion.
All fields of engineering are the same, it just depends which weird discipline you like most. An EE will find it difficult to understand dynamics, just the same as a ME will find analogue circuits difficult to understand.

Post-graduate levels the playing field. I am taking post-graduate courses in both electronics and statistics, and I find them no harder than my ME classes.
