chain rule in higher dimensions

Can someone give me an actual proof of the chain rule in higher dimensions? why is it the sum of the partial derivatives times the derivative of the inner functions? I understand the case in one dimension, df(g(t))/dt = (df/dg)*(dg/dt) , but why the fuck is it the sum of the partial derivatives in cases of higher dimensions? I have looked everywhere but no one seems to be able to provide an answer.
