You see, the purpose for civilization is to make the environment safe and secure enough so that artists, athletes, and philosophers can perform their crafts. That's the objective purpose of it. A mathematician, being a type of philosopher, IS the purpose for the existence of society and technological advancement. The "Maintenance men" - engineers, tradesmen, scientists, building contractors, etc - exist purely so that the REAL humans, the artists athletes and philosophers, can have a comfier place to play.
The technologists and engineers and "people who advance technology" are bottom-rung bitches who exist purely so that their superiors (the athletes, philosophers, and artists) can perform their superior purpose.
