Why do Math professors not teach Math philosophically? The ones at my uni always pander to the engineers and scientists. It makes Math soulless.

Mathematical philosophy is cringe as fuck. Actual philosophers realize math is basically a game in the realm and philosophy and engineers and physicists realize it is a useful tool and nothing more. Mathematicians are stuck in this horrible limbo where they think their work is too mighty to be used by engineers and physicists and that they're figuring out the secrets of the universe while, in reality, they're playing in a sandbox with each other while their useful results (very few) are taken by engineers and physicists and they're mocked by philosophers.

Mathematics is taught philosophically in the classes where it is relevant, e.g. abstract algebra, analysis, probability, and formal logic. The other classes like calculus and statistics are taught primarily to engineers and physicists and to mathematicians just so they aren't useless proof-writers.

Well, the truest answer is probably because most people are actually retarded and can only follow the formulae they're given. Professors teach the classes that everybody takes (e.g. calc) in that way because it's the only way to ensure that most people don't fail. But it's painfully obvious that OP is a freshman/sophomore because most math classes aren't taught like that once you get to the level where the professors are forced to assume the class isn't full of complete retards.

You might have studied mathematics for years and know the notation and definitions well, but be slow to come up with solutions to new problems.
