Alright cunts,
Walk me through why Pi is 3.14 etc. rather than some other number, from the properties of circles, or of polygons.
I'm not asking for a series that adds to Pi.
I'm not asking for some formula with e.
I'm asking for an explanation, from what we know about polygons and/or circles, at a very elementary level, up into however much abstraction we need, to finally arrive at Pi being 3.14 etc.
Don't you fuck this up.

The sense I’m getting is that, like most mathcunts, your fundamentals are garbage, and youse have no knowledge of how we go from the easier to grasp properties of a circle, namely conceiving of it as being an infinite sided regular polygon, to explaining why whatever your particular formula for Pi is describes the ratio of circumference to diameter.

Regardless of whether some of the people posting here are doing it ironically, I doubt that any (or at least most) of them could explain why this or that formula for Pi yields the ratio of a circumference to a diameter.
And being unable to explain something ironically is still being incompetent.

Because it was measured to be that way. Pi is just the ratio of circumference to diameter, geometrically speaking. It's special because its a universal property of circles in Euclidean spaces.

You know what, I think it's a good question. I just googled it; the most intuitive way seems to be taking the perimeter of a bigger and bigger polygon. I'm gonna try that now.

Using $2 \pi$ in a derivation of $\pi$ would have seemed a bit circular, don't you think? At least degrees are just defined as splitting up a full rotation into 360 parts.

Well yeah, but I'd also like to know the rationale for it.
Presumably there are actual good reasons for it being 3.14 etc. rather than someone getting out a measuring tape. I'm guessing though that it might be a sort of dangling question that gets skipped over in the shuffle between late highschool and early uni and that people forget to ask about because they're so used to using 3.14 etc.?
Either that or literally no one here is beyond first or second year, and it becomes clearer afterwards. But I doubt that.
