It’s electromagnetic wavelengths exciting receptors that create an electric impulse that excites neurons in your brain which then creates the colors. Your brain isn’t “imagining” anything, it’s just a series of reactions. It’s not like your brain is making that shit up, each frequency of wave induces a different impulse and reaction.

There is doubtlessly a process of imagination at play here.

What about the opalescent colors percieved during LSD/psilocybin trips? What about colors experienced while dreaming? How about colorblindness?

Color is largely a subjective experience.

How do you know that though? I can be quite sure while in a dream that the mountain I'm looking at is real, and it's only after I wake up that I've realized it was all fake.
