Is there a version of Wolfram's "A New Kind of Science" without all of Wolfram's self aggrandizement?

Or perhaps a similar book thats less verbose that explains the same concepts of cellular automata and possible relation to physics.

I'm aware the consensus is bullshit, I'd just like to read about it and decide for myself. I just don't care for wolfram himself.
