My mechanical engineering professor (fluid dynamics specialist) said mechanical engineering is the most difficult major available at university at the undergraduate level. How do you cope?

Obviously totally unbiased.

I would say that mech eng. is probably harder if you measure by %who made it compared to most other majors, but this fails to account for the people who go into it.
I would think mathematics is "harder" just the people who study math are more skewed towards succeeding in their courses.

He's not necessarily wrong about mechanical engineering's level of difficulty - it's certainly up there, but in terms of knowledge required, amount of coursework and rigor I would argue that chemistry or chemical engineering with an ochem concentration and electrical engineering are both harder.

I don't know OP, at my university mechanical was one of the fallbacks for those that got filtered out of other programs. I knew quite a lot of people who got bodied in emag went on to get degrees in mechanical and industrial.

It depends on the university. It might be true for the programs offered by your uni, while somewhere else EE or Aerospace might be harder. Also, it doesn't matter if your major is the hardest available in your university if your school isn't particularly rigorous. Are you a Polytechnique student?
