Computers are tools. Tools give you mechanical advantage. Computer programs let you sort, search, calculate, retrieve, and send things faster and automatically. Every other tool you have to apply a force repeatedly to get the amplified effect from mechanical advantage. With a computer you click a button *once* and the force is applied repeatedly without your assistance.
So with that being said, given the ability to sort, search, calculate, retrieve, and send things faster and automatically, what are some things you would like to do that involve those processes? Do you have a job? Are you a student? Try to come up with a list of tasks that you either want to be automated or that could be automated that would make your life easier. The automatic feature of a computer is definitely the biggest advantage they give you, and what makes computers different from other tools.
I don't develop software but I use software for both of my jobs and do have a list of areas that could be automated. When I'm analyzing samples in my lab, reports could very easily be generated without me having to go through certain 'click sequences,' to get the report to generate. Likewise when I'm scanning for stocks, I have certain ratios that I'm looking for between certain percent changes of certain variables that could be scraped from the website and printed into a sorted and formatted .csv automatically.
