i just realized i have no idea how to make anything.

even if i have an idea for something to invent, i don't understand basic mechanics. i don't know how to make a basic rotating hinge. i don't know how to make things out of plastic and metal.

is society designed this way? we get funneled into academia and getting a job, instead of learning how to manufacture inventions, because big business has already mastered manufacturing?

i have an idea for something to invent (it's an apparatus for chemistry) but i can't do anything abuot it because i don't have a basic understanding of things like glassblowing, machining, etc.

how would i even get started in learning these things? my community college doesn't have manufacturing classes. i guess i would talk to engineering professors at university who can tell me who to talk to?

i also don't really understand how cars are made. i feel really stupid. i'm a chemistry major and yet i don't understand how 99% of the sh*t around me is made.
