I'm going to try to publish a computational linguistics paper by convincing one of my professors to help me out and by studying the shit out of other researchers' papers and cold-emailing them about it. I'm only aiming for a low-impact multidisciplinary journal at this point as I'm an undergrad freshman that has never been published, but I just want to get ahead faster as soon as possible. I don't really know how I could do that without building up a sizable body of work, like I've seen a few other people manage to do somehow.

Hand your paper over to a grad student. They will love the opportunity to read it and their refutation will be counted as a research project to their adviser. If your paper actually has a point and is correct then the professor will see it, contact you for more information and will ask you to publish it in a paper.

So you can, quite literally, walk into a university and hand it to a grad student.

that's not how you get ahead in research as an undergraduate. you need direct mentorship and a tenure-track faculty member to sign on to your work. find someone who will give you some autonomy but help you start a finishable project.

and i've never in my life heard a good explanation that wasn't an example of circular reasoning at its core. "racism is bad because it's bad to be a racist". why? "because that's RACIST!". it's a goddamned religion for some people, and it's impossible to have a rational conversation with those people.

It's not like it's illegal to submit without a university affiliation, but you may have trouble getting attention unless it's pretty concise and impactful.
