Mathematica is absolutely trash software though, there is no reason to use it except if you have no programming experience and need to quickly get some scripts running, even then learning python would be a much better investment

Listened to the first half, it's so much fun listening to him get caught on topic after topic realizing how much context he has to explain just to answer simple questions. It isn't as though any of the stuff he talks about earlier is very complicated, but it shows the depth of these systems which we all vaguely understand. I love hearing about how he was inspired to work on mathematica and such as well. It's such a natural thing to me know to think that I should try to use programs to help me solve math problems (mostly to point me in the right direction) and to hear him talk about how that was completely out of the question when he was young was pretty fascinating.

Desmos is excellent if you know how to use it properly.
Obviously, it is nowhere near as powerful as Wolfram Alpha or Mathematica. That's not the point. It's really powerful at what it needs to do.

There is even an entire CAS for it.

you can't seriously be suggesting that SymPy is anywhere close to usable. It's worse than matlab's CAS support. Scipy is just wrappers of fortran computation libraries, cv, scikit, the various ML libraries are only collections of algorithms. matplotlib doesn't begin to compare to matlab or mathematica.

I actually use python day to day for R&D at my job so I know exactly what its offerings and limitations are.
