It is somewhat disingenuous to make the blanket statement that 0.999...=1. You need to specify that it is true only in the reals. There is no reason that it need be true in any number system that you create. I think to make this distinction would help clarify it for retards, because they seem to find the surreal or the dual numbers as more intuitive than the reals.
